Journal Entries

Well that was weird... I find that it can be weeks between times I visit my own site, depending on notifications or RSS feeds to let me know if anything is changing. Well today I just decided to check it and found it was down. Seems that the permissions on my cgi directory got changed. what's up with that?

Lots of little bugs in my old TWiki apps - editing a journal entry always tries to create a new one, even if the old one exists. What's up with that!? Then the link dump app isn't actually adding links. Both look like changes in the template system.
Halo 3 is coming out tomorrow. Looks pretty exciting, the advertising is really well done. Awesome!

Well - it's been a couple of years.
I switched my domain over to another free provider and was going to write my own wiki/blog software. This isn't really a new thing for me. I've written lots of wiki's over the years. This time however I failed to take into account that I have 2 kids! Well, after two years of fiddling with this and that I finally decided to jump back to TWiki and get going again.
I missed TWiki, it's a very nice platform and makes it very easy to write simple apps, like this journal. It's an awsome Wiki with a great set of features. It's a good feeling to be back!
If you're curious I'm hosting thePettersons.org with a company called site5. They have a 5 buck a month shared hosting plan, and they give you shell access. Not a bad deal.

There is some really awesome content out there! I'm talking about
PodCasting? & now
VideoCasting? ! A new episode of
TikiBarTv came out last night/this morning, and Johnny Johnny teaches us what love is. That is some funny stuff! Excellent production values as well! And of course, there's
Lala.... Check 'em out!
Second is
RocketBoom once again some funny/creative/talented stuff going on there. Amanda has kept up a very rigorous schedule, posting every weekday for a long time. This weeks blue-ball in new york special was amazing. Not her usual format, but really a great story of love and a little blue ball. Too funny!
Some of my other favorites include
The Seanachai a semi-weekly original story. Once again, really creative content and excellent production values. Home of the "How to Succeed in Evil" series. If you can only check out one new podcast - I'd recommend this one!
If you're into old time sci-fi then you really must check out
Spaceship Radio. Andy sends us an episode of "X minus one" every week. X-1 is an old time radio show, saved from oblivion by the emergence of geeks with ipods & of course Andy.

Andy has also started up a script wiki where people are collaborating together on new science fiction stories that will, presumably, be presented on Spaceship Radio when complete. Since I'm a geek, love sci-fi, and have an ipod - I'm totally digging this podcast!
Well - off to get another day started!

Well what do ya know! I removed two plugins and got a bunch of performance back out of the old girl.

The
SpreadSheet? plugin was a total hog! Just deleting it made a noticable improvement in performance. I wasn't even using it! I guess it's because it adds so many commands and things to the parser that it can't help but slow it down.
TiddlyWiki? is still my favorite toy though! I'm working on a tweak to the storage model that will make it able to have the tiddler store itself removed from the page and put in a server, database, or just another file and more importantly, lazily loaded.
I noticed that Powweb had a crontab tool on their ops page a while ago, and finally got around to debugging my failing cron jobs. Wouldn't you know it - there was
another instance of twiki directly accessing the \tmp directory from yet another environment variable. This one was ENV( "TEMP" )... fixed it and my statistics appear to be working again for the first time in years.
